FAQ Mirrorpilot

Most other navigation systems feature larger displays. Is 2.2 inches not too small?

MirrorPilot is considerably closer to the eye than other navigation systems, e.g. portable ones. This makes the difference in size relative (see diagram).

Can I use the MirrorPilot Navigator as a normal mirror without using the navigation function?

Of course. When you don’t need the navigation function, just switch off the screen and end up with more mirror.

Can MirrorPilot Navigator be installed in every vehicle?

Unfortunately not. With some models, some car manufacturers build into the interior mirror some of the car electronics. So, to install MirrorPilot Navigator, the original interior mirror has to be removed. However, sometimes, a specialist is able to isolate the electronics in the old mirror and locate them elsewhere in the vehicle. But this can only be decided by the specialist when confronted with the particular specifics. It is best to approach an authorised dealer.
Otherwise, MirrorPilot Navigator can be adapted to suit almost all vehicles, particularly with the various accessories and adapter brackets  with which we supply the authorised dealers. Please speak to an authorised dealer who can advise on the specifics of installing MirrorPilot Navigator in your car.

Do I have to have MirrorPilot Navigator registered in my car documents?
No, this is not necessary. MirrorPilot Navigator is approved by the authorities for permanent installation in vehicles and features a license number on the back.

Portable navigation devices must not be left inside an unattended vehicle – how does this apply to MirrorPilot Navigator?

MirrorPilot Navigator is part of the vehicle’s fixtures and fittings. Therefore it is covered by your insurance should your vehicle be broken into.

Why does MirrorPilot Navigator have two sound volume settings?

The system volume controls the basic volume of all audio signals, the volume of the click sound when the scroll wheel is used, for instance. You can also use the volume to control the volume of the navigation instructions.

I cannot adjust the brightness. The brightness button is greyed out!
The MirrorPilot is designed to be at full brightness during the day. This is done so that the display can be read even when light conditions are unfavourable. The brightness can only be adjusted in night mode. However, you can set the day/night interface so that the MirrorPilot Navigator stays in night mode during the day, adjust the night mode brightness and then reset the day/night interface back the way it was.

Once I have started the destination guide and driven away, it takes a long time for the MirrorPilot Navigator to work out the route. Until then the display says “GPS quality is low. Please wait until current position can be determined!” Is this normal?
When switched on, the MirrorPilot must first establish its own current position. To do this, it needs signals from at least three GPS satellites. Obtaining these can take some time in fog or rain, and nearby high buildings or trees can also interfere with satellite signal reception. Also, determining the position can take longer if the MirrorPilot is already moving. We recommend waiting a little before driving away. MirrorPilot finds its position quicker when stationary.

My MirrorPilot has switched itself off. I can’t switch it back on again or it keeps going on and off! What can I do?
Please make sure that the electricity supply connector plug is properly engaged in the socket at the top.

If I have MirrorPilot Navigator installed in my company car, does it have to be declared as a non-cash benefit for tax purposes?
No, the non-cash tax benefit of a company car relates only to the list price of the car together with all the equipment installed at the factory, not to elements added later on.

I bought the D/A/CH version of MirrorPilot Navigator but I now have to travel to other countries. What can I do?
We provide a map upgrade for Europe for those who have bought the D/A/CH version of MirrorPilot Navigator. Please visit our WebShop or contact us on our hotline telephone number or at  hotline‎@‎mirrorpilot.com.

In my current car I have a mirror with automatic dimming function. Will this function be lost if I have MirrorPilot Navigator installed?
Don’t worry, MirrorPilot Navigator has its own automatic dimming function, and this even allows itself to be switched off.

Can I install MirrorPilot Navigator myself?
Installing MirrorPilot Navigator involves a certain amount of work that only a professional can estimate. This professional also knows which accessories are needed for adapting MirrorPilot Navigator to your particular vehicle. He also knows from where to draw the power supply for the device. So always have the MirrorPilot installed by an authorised dealer.
